Nestled in a valley, surrounded by mountains, Sproat Lake and the surrounding areas are known for mild and wet winters. Living on the Lake in the winter might not be quite the same as the summer months, but it offers the perfect location to hunker down with a warm fire and a good book. Here\u2019s what to expect during the winter months at Sproat Lake.<\/span><\/div>\n

The West Coast, also known as the \u201cWet Coast\u201d has an average winter rainfall between 63mm and 223mm, which means that a good rain jacket and boots are a must have. Surrounded by lush rainforest, the bright greens of fern and moss against the deep browns of the earth, brighten up any rainy day. Temperatures on the lake average around -2C at night, and between 4-15C during the day. The mild temperatures and rainy weather make for a perfect hike<\/a> or staying inside by the fire all day.<\/span><\/div>\n

Living on Sproat Lake and the Alberni Valley is definitely a lifestyle, those who choose the west coast have a love of the outdoors and the nature views that surround them at every angle, regardless of the weather. Spending time outside, breathing in the fresh air, listening to the rain patter against the leaves, jumping in puddles, and exploring the area are all a part of this lifestyle. West Coasters don\u2019t wait for a sunny day, they make the best out of whatever weather is thrown at them. Being properly prepared is of the utmost importance; rain boots or waterproof shoes, cozy flannel, wool socks, and a sturdy rain jacket enable you to get outside and enjoy West Coast living comfortably any day of the year! \"Living\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

While Sproat Lake is bustling and busy during the summer months<\/a>, the winter months offer some much needed peace and quiet for locals. It\u2019s the perfect time to explore local trails, head into town for a bite to eat, get covered in mud dirt biking or atving, or spend the day exploring the Island. For those fortunate to live on the lake all year round, enjoying looking out onto the calm still lake in the winter months is always a picture perfect view. Drive two hours west and you\u2019ll find yourself in one of the worlds best storm watching locations, Tofino; two hours east and you\u2019ll be skiing or snowboarding down Mt. Washington. Port Alberni is often considered the \u2018Hub City\u2019 as we are surrounded by many great locations on the island. Alternatively, it\u2019s also the perfect place to light a fire and snuggle up in your favourite chair to watch the rain fall or read a good book.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
